Grant support built around your organization

Illustration of a globe with people around it, symbolizing global community and environmental awareness.

A holistic approach to strengthening your organization.

Because funders evaluate more than your proposal, every engagement includes all of these areas:

  • • Grant strategy + writing
    • Messaging + design
    • Systems + coaching

No two engagements look the same.

Find Your Starting Point

I typically work with organizations in three ways. The right one depends on your goals, your team's capacity, and where you are in your grant journey. We'll figure out the right fit together on a discovery call.

1) Long-Term Partnership

The grant department you don't have the bandwidth to build.

2) The Roadmap

An audit + concrete plan your team can execute with or without help

One-time engagement

3) Review + Coaching

A senior thought partner for your internal team doing the work.

Long-Term Partnership

For organizations ready to hand off the grant function to a senior partner and focus on what they do best — running their mission.

This is a fully customized engagement built around your organization's specific goals, funding landscape, and capacity. I start with a deep dive into where you are today, then build and execute a proactive grant strategy together — including prospect research, proposal writing, calendar management, funder stewardship, and reporting.

Along the way, I also look holistically at the organizational areas that directly impact your grant success — your messaging, your materials, your systems — and strengthen them as part of the engagement.

Every proposal, every strategy, every piece of work gets my direct attention. You always know what's happening, what's coming next, and why.

This is the right fit if:

  • You understand that a strong grant program is built over time — and you're ready to start

  • You need senior-level grant expertise without the cost of a full-time hire

  • You're ready for a real strategic partner, not just a task-doer

✓ 6-month minimum retainer

The Roadmap

Not ready for a full retainer — or not sure where to start? This project gives you the core assets, organizational clarity, and strategic roadmap your grant program needs to grow — without the commitment of an ongoing retainer.

I begin with a comprehensive organizational audit that looks honestly at where your grant program, communications, and systems stand today. From there I build the tools and roadmap your team needs to move forward with confidence — whether that's independently or with ongoing support.

What this typically includes:

  • Organizational audit across grants, messaging, and systems

  • Master grant application template

  • Grant prospect research and prioritized funder list

  • 12-month grants calendar

  • Prioritized recommendations report

The Roadmap engagement is scoped to your organization's specific needs following a discovery call.

This is the right fit if:

  • You want to get organized and strategic before committing to ongoing support

  • You have internal capacity to execute but need the tools and roadmap to do it well

✓ One-time engagement

Review + Coaching Partnership

You have someone internally who can write grants and handle communications — but you want a senior thought partner to review the work, strengthen it over time, and help your team grow more confident and capable.

This is an ongoing retainer engagement where I serve as your organization's outside expert — reviewing grant proposals, donor communications, messaging, design, and systems with fresh eyes and honest feedback. Depending on your needs and preferences, I can provide detailed feedback and coaching, or roll up my sleeves and edit and polish drafts directly. We figure out what works best for your team during the discovery process.

I meet with you regularly to discuss priorities, talk through challenges, and build the skills and confidence your team needs to run a stronger grant program independently.

Think of it as having a senior nonprofit strategist in your corner — without the cost of a full-time hire.

This is the right fit if:

  • You have internal capacity to write and execute but want senior-level oversight and guidance

  • You want to build your team's skills over time, not create dependency on outside support

  • You're looking for an honest thought partner who will tell you what's working and what isn't

✓ Month-to-month retainer

How I work

Nonprofit Solution Hub founder Renée Johansson, a woman with shoulder-length brown hair and glasses is sitting on a wooden bench, holding an iPad and Apple Pencil, talking on a cell phone, surrounded by large green leaves and ferns.

Every engagement starts the same way — with me listening. Before I write a single word or research a single funder, I want to understand your organization, your team, your history, and your goals. That context shapes everything.

I take on a small number of clients at a time by design. It means I can show up fully for each one — responsive, invested, and genuinely committed to your success. Every engagement gets my direct attention and care, and when additional expertise is needed, I bring in trusted colleagues who share the same standards.

And when we're done, my goal is simple: your organization is in a better place than when we started.
